Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons dried mullein leaf
  • 1 tablespoon dried red raspberry leaf
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried peppermint leaf

Equipment

  • Mortar and pestle
  • Small mixing bowl
  • Unbleached rolling papers
  • Small glass jar with a lid

Method

  1. Check that all the herbs are fully dry but not crumbly. If they are too dry, mist them lightly with water and let them air dry for a couple of hours.
  2. Grind the mullein, raspberry leaf, and peppermint to an even, coarse texture with a mortar and pestle, picking out any stems.
  3. Stir the herbs together in a small bowl until the color looks even.
  4. Lay a thin line of the blend along a rolling paper, roll it between your fingers to shape it, then tuck, roll, and seal the paper, packing the herbs fairly firmly.
  5. Store any extra blend in a small glass jar with a tight lid, somewhere cool and dark.

Notes

Yield: Makes about 1/4 cup of blend.
Ratio: The pattern is 2 parts base herb, 1 part supporting herb, and 1/2 part flavor herb by volume. Marshmallow leaf or bearberry leaf can replace the mullein, and spearmint, rose petals, lavender, or chamomile can replace the peppermint.
Dry herbs only: Use only fully dried herbs, since damp plant material can mold.
Storage: A sealed glass jar away from light keeps the blend at its full scent for about 6 months to a year.
Smoke: Burning any plant produces smoke that contains tar and carbon monoxide.
